Established in 1951, the Salar Jung Museum is situated on the southern bank of the River Musi in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. The museum owes its extensive collection of rare art objects to the efforts of the Salar Jung family. Officially opened to the public on December 16, 1951, the museum was relocated to its current building in 1968, with the inauguration officiated by Dr. Zakir Hussain, then President of India.

The museum's collections represent a rich tapestry of human history, spanning from the 2nd century B.C. to the early 20th century A.D. It boasts over 46,000 art objects, more than 8,000 manuscripts, and upwards of 60,000 printed books. These items are categorized into various genres, including Indian Art, Middle Eastern Art, Persian Art, Nepalese Art, Japanese Art, Chinese Art, and Western Art. Notably, the "Founder's Gallery" is dedicated to showcasing the legacy of the esteemed Salar Jung family. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated across 39 distinct galleries.
